Pingüinos

Hello Wonderful Bilingual Colleagues!  I want to share several of the writing strategies I use in my first grade dual language classroom.  I always get compliments on how well my students write.  The only explanation I have is that they write every single day! Let me show you some of the strategies I use for informational texts.

I first start out with a non-fiction passage with the necessary information to build comprehension.  Knowledge of the topic will result in great writing!  Next, my students fill out a bubble map with all the facts they learned about the topic.  Then, they write a rough draft about the topic.  We use mentor texts to vary the topic sentences and conclusions.
Why not try it yourself!  Here is a FREEBIE for you to try in your own classroom.
