Given all of that, I decided to create some poems to be used in a poetry notebook. I used the same poems from my Palabras prodigiosas word work, so that they would coordinate. Now we can read a new poem together several times; put it in our notebooks; illustrate it; do some word work with a high frequency word from the poem; and reread the poem anytime we'd like! It works really well for us. We also can make little notebooks with the full-page versions, like this:
And, since it's Sunday, I've posted a free sample of the poetry notebooks for you! This sample has my detailed teacher notes, a cover for your poetry notebooks, and four simple poems. The poems come in both a full-page format and a 3-to-a-page format. The full page is great for projecting and reading together, and then the smaller version can be glued into the notebook and illustrated. The clip art on the full page version is repeated, much smaller, on the glue-in format, to help jog your students' memory and encourage independent reading.

Happy Sunday! I hope your Semana Santa is full of special celebrations and meaning for you.
