Hello, My name is
Miss Campos and I am fairly new to the iTeachBilinguals collaborative blog. However, I am having a great time so far. Welcome to my second post! For those of you that missed my
first post where I introduced myself, I am a Kindergarten teacher in Southern California and have taught K for the last 10 years.
Here is a glimpse of my classroom. These last two weeks we have been learning about 2D shapes. My students LOVE to play with pattern blocks. Especially, when it comes to building pictures out of other shapes like this clown image seen below.

Pattern Block Math Center |
I bought that image and others at my local teacher supply store but I have seen many free downloads on Pinterest. I just pinned one to my
Math for K1 Pinterest board. Click
here to see it.
This week I kidnapped the hexagons and only the left the other 2D shapes in the math center basket. I then challenged the kids to CONTINUE using the puzzle mats to build the pictures without hexagons.

Un experimento con figuras geométricas |
The kids were quite confused until I showed them several ways to make a hexagon! They had so much fun. I prepared 12 bags of shapes preloaded with the exact combinations they needed to make hexagons.
|
3 Maneras de Hacer un Hexágono |
They worked with a partner to build their hexagons on the carpet. We rotated which partners got to build and which partner got to assist. Now with their newfound skills for building hexagons they were able to continue with the math center even though I kidnapped all the hexagons.

Que van hacer los niños sin sus hexágonos? |
For more work with 2D shapes we used these printables to practice drawing and counting the number of sides.
