Back-to-Homeschool Bilingual Printables

This is the time of year when my email begins to fill up with messages from parents struggling with the decision to send their kids to school or take the leap and give homeschooling a try. Their reasons vary, none of them the same, but one common element among them all is that they want their children to learn their heritage and/or their heritage language.

I believe that it's almost impossible to teach language without teaching the culture behind it. The two are so inextricably entwined, each one influences the other.

For that reason, most of my bilingual printables focus on cultural traditions. From the History of Cascarones to the story behind Día de los Muertos to a close look at las Posadas, my downloads will be a great supplement for your lesson plans.

To kick off the school year, I'm giving away three copies of one of my simple bilingual activity sheets great for any type of celebration. Use my Bilingual Papel Picado Activity with your students. Children just roll the die and decorate their papel picado using the options provided. It's available in English and Spanish. Three lucky iTeach Bilinguals readers will win this fun activity sheet.

My name is a Monica and I'm a homeschooling mami of two. I'm deeply honored to have been invited to contribute to this website in the company of such amazing educators. I don't have their experience, but as a parent looking for cultural and bilingual materials, I understand what many parents are looking for in both homeschool resources and supplemental materials. My site, MommyMaestra.com, searches for and shares these resources with Latino parents and educators. Oftentimes, I make my own and am happy to share them. Good luck on today's giveaway!
